For the Love of the Game

Springtime marks the end of winter hibernation. Time to go outside, enjoy the fresh air, and maybe pick back up on your favorite sport. At least, that’s what the designers are hinting for us to do for the Spring/Summer 2014 season. Athletic wear is no longer just for the gym, as high fashion designers like Gucci and Tom Ford created looks in fabrics that were traditionally only used for running, not the runway. Gucci flaunted mesh jerseys over bikini tops and long, silk printed skirts, while Pucci showcased shorts with piping paired with heeled booties for a look that can go from the field to a night out in a pinch. Other designers like Prada, VPL and Lacoste showed varsity stripes on jackets, dresses and skirts.

This sporty look begs to be accessorized with the newly adopted wedge sneakers that have become so ubiquitous this season. In jewelry, look to pair this look with pieces that feel a little edgy. Metallic pieces are perfect, mimicking the sporty edge of the clothes and accessories. The layered chain bracelets from Salvatore Ferragamo or Lera Leshchova’s bold wrapped spiral cuffs look appropriately sporty while adding an edge of sophistication. Cushnie et Ochs’ bold cuff necklace, with its high shine and small hole details also mimic the perforated sportiness in the fabrics of this athletic wear trend.
