Fashion shines for the Spring/Summer 2014 season as we see fabrics take on an opalescent quality. Deviating from the metallics that have been popular in seasons past, the new shiny hues are softer for the spring season, with whites, blues and pink iridescent colors taking their place. Christopher Kane’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection is packed with sheath dresses and pleated gowns in light, shiny fabrics that create a dream-like quality. Jill Sander’s knee length shifts create a similar take on the trend with fabrics that appear to have an almost pearlescent quality. Balmain and Nina Ricci showed off skirts, both long and short, in dreamy fabrics of ivory silk and airy chiffon.
One statement piece is enough to polish this already attention-grabbing look, and the choker is just the accessory of the season to do it. Simon Rocha’s pearl studded choker creates a feeling of lace and lends the perfect soft complement to this trend, while Chanel’s oversized pearl choker creates a bolder edge. Alexander McQueen and Saint Laurent show off bold silver wire wrapped and industrial inspired chokers for the season that give the trend a futuristic edge. At Lanvin, oversized rectangular dark iridescent jewels grace the top of the models decollates on the runway, forming the perfect balance between soft and hard for this Spring/Summer 2014 trend.
